A visit to IKEA Singapore

Today, I just decided to visit IKEA. Earlier when I was having my breakfast, I randomly checked IKEA's website for nothing. I don't know but there is always an urge to visit that place. So I skimmed through the site and found this nice hamper. I have been looking for this "sealed" type hamper and not those "divi" types that come with see through fabrics.

After hours of playing World of Tanks I decided to take a shower and visit IKEA. I had my quick but late-lunch at Woodlands MRT and took a direct 168 bus to IKEA.

I reached about 4PM and eagerly walked through the displays. I found a priced item! A lint remover, HAHA! When I had my overnight stay in Manila last week, my wife and I bought a lint remover for 130Php or about 4Sgd. Yes it was expensive, and here in IKEA its only going for close to 2Sgd!

After tens of minutes, I bought this red throw pillow, pillow protector, some lint remover refills and my new hamper! I reached the counter around 6pm and the queue was very long probably all the people were already rushing to go home since today is a Sunday.

My new hamper (left), red pillow and lint removers (right). No photo of the pillow protector because I already used it for my extra pillow.

Start of my SG misadventure

I could still remember, it was a Wednesday night when I purchased a roundtrip ticket to Singapore. It was due to an important mail I received earlier that day that turned a new chapter in my life.

My journey to Singapore was not planned. During my college days, I never imagined myself working outside of Philippines. I guess its when you meet that someone, everything changes with direction.

This was my ticket to Singapore. It cost me (ugh, should i say my Mom) quite a fortune because my flight was scheduled in less than 5 days. I didnt have anything in my account to begin with as I never saved anything from my below average monthly salary. HEHEHE! (yes, architecture graduates are paid really low)

July 31, 2010 - Saturday afternoon
After 4 days of reading through some online discussions about going to Singapore, I am finally to get in by myself. Nothing special. I was just asked where i will be staying and the officer gave me a 30-day social visit pass.

For my first week, I stayed in a room of a 3-bedroom flat with 3 people which was owned by a Filipino family. In Singapore, most of the citizens and residents stay in public housing. Everywhere outside the CBD (Central Business District) you will notice this uniformly built housing units. They look similar to condo housing with no amenities except a void deck(first floor do not have anything but columns and a lift lobby) below each tower. They call these mid rise buildings as "HDB". HDB stands for the government body in charge of housing - Housing Development Board.
